Event Description:
An eleven day trip to the majestic Glacier National Park in Montana. Scouts will have the option to either join a Glacier in-park day-hike group or a back-country backpacking group. Any scout who has attended a long-term campout (with some exceptions) may do day hikes but backpackers must be at least 13 years old and minimum First Class. All attendees must have have complete medical form (parts A, B, and C). Parents are also welcome and encouraged to attend. Practice hikes will begin in in April so scouts, leaders, and parents can be prepared to fully enjoy this incredible hiking experience.
Signing up requires a non-refundable down payment of $100 per person by March 5 so that Glacier reservations can be secured, a second payment of $200 is due Monday April 23, and the final payment by May 21st. Financial assistance may be available for Scouts who cannot afford these costs--please see Scoutmaster Olsen. We will be eating at restaurants while traveling to and from Glacier Park, so attendees should plan on bringing money for their traveling meals.
For those interested there will be a 15 minute informational meeting (parents and scouts) on Monday February 26th at 8:00pm, immediately following the regular troop meeting where we will discuss this trip in more detail and answer questions. More details about required equipment will be provided at this meeting.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to visit Glacier National Park, "The Crown of the Continent". Visit the Park's website at https://www.nps.gov/glac/index.htm
