Wear suitable clothing, especially good socks and shoes / hiking boots. It is late fall with variable weather, so dress warmly, bring a hat, sunglasses, and consider gloves and a rain poncho (we will update the group on the weather the closer we get).
Bring water! even if the temperatures might be cooler, you still need to stay hydrated.

Event Description:
We are pleased to announce a 5 to 10-mile urban / suburban / forest hike in Peoria on Saturday, October 28th,, open to Scouts BSA or Webelos with sufficient Cub Scout leaders accompanying. Hikers may hike either or both Segment 1 and Segment 2 (see description below), each being 5 miles in length.
We will be gathering to start the first segment by approximately 7:30 AM and stepping off at approximately 8:00 AM from the area of Peoria's Forest Park Nature Center, walking along the Rock Island Greenway, dropping down through Springdale Cemetery, and pausing at the Ingersoll statue in Glen Oak Park (5-mile mark). Hikers who wish to walk only the first 5-mile segment will finish here (must have a ride home / back to vehicle – remember Youth Protection requirements). Note: Webelos wanting to walk only the first segment may alternatively choose to walk approx. 2.5miles into the first leg, then turn around and hike back to Forest Park Nature Center; sufficient adult Webelos leaders must accompany the Webelos hikers.
Segment two begins at the Ingersoll statue, heads down to Peoria's riverfront, crosses the bridge into East Peoria, and then heads to our finish point at the old CVS in East Peoria. Here is a great opportunity to explore some walking trails, a variety of scenery, and historic Peoria landmarks. Hikers must have a ride home or back to their vehicle at Forest Park Nature Center (Youth Protection requirements must be met at all times).
We will take a short break at the half-way mark and otherwise if needed. We will not be providing lunch, but instead ask that you bring your own lunch or snacks to eat during the hike.
